What To Expect:

The Orthodox faith is best understood by experiencing Her Divine Services. Lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi: what we pray is what we believe and what we live. A person can read a thousand books on the Orthodox faith, the original Faith, but it can never be fully known until it is prayed and lived.

We invite everyone who is interested to come and see the faith that the Apostles preached, the Fathers taught, and the Church has kept. Our services are open to the public, we only ask that each visitor treat our home as you want us to treat your home.

You will find that the typical Orthodox service is full of beauty, singing and praying from Holy Scripture, and time honored rituals. It all may seem like a lot. But there is only one requirement for everyone who visits our Divine Services: pray. You must pray and open yourself to the presence of the Almighty God who revealed Himself through His Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, and Christ who reveals Himself even today through the life of His Church.

 For Newcomers

  • Yes! We would love for you to come and join us in prayer and worship. Even if you aren’t Orthodox, you’re allowed to participate in almost every part of the service (as much as you are comfortable). The only exception to this is going forward to receive communion at the end of the liturgy.

  • You’re likely to see parishioners in suits, dresses, skirts, flannels, and even t-shirts. There is no formal dress requirement in that regard. Keep it simple. Any modest clothing you would normally wear is fine for your first visit. The only things to refrain from would be revealing, vulgar, or provocative designs.

  • Not a thing! All you should bring with you is a heart open to the presence of God in His Church.

  • The focus of everyone in the service is on God, not on what the person standing next to them is or isn’t doing. Besides, everyone you’ll meet on your visit had a first day in church, and just about everyone is happy to show you the ropes and answer questions. If you come to a Sunday morning service, we’ll even feed you with a meal afterward!

  • Absolutely! Worship is a family affair. Everyone from the newborn to the elderly are welcome and present in our services. Don’t worry about the natural, lovely sounds your children make. It’s holy noise! Most children do surprisingly well in services, but even the best of them have their moments (just like us adults). If you need to, feel free to step into the next room with your little one and come back in when you’re ready. There’s a small play area in the fellowship hall outside the nave that all the kids frequent.

  • Almost certainly. After our liturgy on Sundays we have a fellowship meal which would be a great time to get to know us and to ask questions!
